Decision on Asif's drugs case likely today
Dubai, Jun 8 (PTI) Pakistani paceman Mohammad Asif detained a week ago at Dubai airport for allegedly carrying contraband drugs appeared before a court today but his fate is expected to be known Monday 9th June.

A Dubai court adjourned the proceedings until today, soon after hearing recommendations of the prosecutors while the findings of the official inquiry has been handed over to the Emirate's Attorney General.

Pace bowler Asif(25) was accompanied by his lawyers.

"The chief prosecutor cross-examined the witnesses who were instrumental in finding the banned substance from the bowler.

The court case will resume tomorrow," Senior Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official Nadeem Akram told PTI.

Akram, who was rushed by the Board to bail out the pacer, hoped that the outcome of the case would be known tomorrow.

Akaram was also quoted as saying that the Attorney General may either frame charges against Asif or may announce the decision on Monday. The young bowler has claimed he is innocent after he faced charges of possessing an illegal substance.

The official however did not disclose whether the prosecutors had levelled any charges against the player who was caught with contraband drugs at the Dubai airport on his arrival from Mumbai on June 1.

Asif was on his way to Lahore after playing in the Indian Premium League for the Delhi Daredevils.

The PCB official said law would take its own course in the case and there was no other option but to wait for the outcome of the case.
