Japan: 2 ex-university rugby players admit cannabis charges
YOKOHAMA--Two former university rugby players admitted during the first hearing of their trial at the Yokohama District Court on Friday that they had grown and smoked marijuana in their dormitory.

Prosecutors sought an 18-month prison sentence for Keiji Umeno and Taiki Nakamura, both 21-year-old former members of Kanto Gakuin University's powerful rugby team and residents of the city, for violating the Cannabis Control Law. The trial closed later in the day.

The two were expelled from the university after the incident.

According to the indictment, the two grew about 16 plants in the apartment building used as a dormitory for the team in Kanazawa Ward from September to November 2007.
