Police raid alleged hemp seed suppliers
YOKOHAMA--The Kanagawa prefectural police on Thursday raided four locations, including a shop in Shibuya Ward, Tokyo, that allegedly sold hemp seeds, in an attempt to confirm and crack down on channels whereby the seeds are illegally imported and supplied.
Illegally cultivating hemp from seeds has became a social problem in the nation recently, especially among young people.

Under existing legislation, people can only import heat-treated hemp seeds that cannot germinate.

However, the shops are believed to have smuggled from the Netherlands seeds that have not had the mandatory heat treatment.

The shops were suspected of violating the Cannabis Control Law.
