Drugs in Catchpole case 'benign'
A LAWYER for the son of Wallaby great Ken Catchpole has said an analysis of alleged illegal drugs will clear him.

Mark Catchpole, 40, is facing a series of drug supply and possession charges, as well as proceeds of crime charges, alongside former Olympic swimmer Scott Miller.

Mr Catchpole's lawyer William Barber told Sydney's Central Local Court today analysis of the substances alleged to be illicit drugs indicated they were in fact benign.

However, Prosecutor Natalie Olender rejected Mr Barber's suggestion that drugs charges would not go ahead.
Ms Olender told the court police had intercepted 3300 phone calls related to the case against Mr Catchpole and Mr Miller, of which 1900 had been reviewed.

Transcripts had been made of up to 50 relevant calls but examination of the remaining 1400 conversations would take some time, she said.

Mr Barber told Magistrate Allan Moore the only charge he expected to proceed to hearing was dealing with the proceeds of crime.

Police allege Mr Catchpole handled $224,000 knowing it was the proceeds of criminal activity.

Mr Moore varied Mr Catchpole's bail to allow him to live in Kurraba, Queensland, until his next appearance at the Downing Centre Local Court on August 7.
