'Cannabis hemp' paper factory to open
The far north of Western Australia could soon have a new industry, with the recent arrival of six hundred kilograms of hemp seed, to be grown in trial plots just south of Broome.

The company which has made the purchase, Hemp Resources, has secured the rights to create hemp paper and the Chinese designs for a hemp paper mill.

Industrial hemp - this can help us save the planet.

Chief executive, Kim Hough, says the company is looking to begin operations with a 200-thousand-tonne hemp paper mill in the Ord Valley.

"The Ord has no shortage of water", he says.

"Therefore, we started looking at the logistics of being able to utilise that water and those seed varieties and creating an industry that we could marry up with the production out of China and have production 365 days of the year, instead of a seasonal situation where we still couldn't feed the market."
