TEENAGERS and adults remain ignorant of the health risks of smoking marijuana despite a raft of evidence linking cannabis to memory loss, schizophrenia and psychosis.
| The Australian Medical Association says it is vital people have access to accurate and easily understood information about the potential short-term and long-term effects of smoking marijuana. The powerful doctors' group yesterday launched a brochure containing the latest research on the drug for GPs to give to their patients. | |
AMA president Rosanna Capolingua said: "Many Australians, including teenagers and their parents, visit their GP on a regular basis.
"These visits are an opportunity for doctors to provide patients with credible and authoritative information about cannabis use."
Cannabis - in all its forms - is the most common illicit drug used in Australia with 9percent of Australians using it in the past 12 months.
