Border bust nets $5.5 million; officials in ecstasy
A 52-year-old Surrey man is facing smuggling charges across the border after U.S. officials at the Pacific Highway crossing found 185,946 ecstasy tablets hidden in a southbound vehicle.
The pills, weighing 55 kg, are valued at $5.5 million. They were found Monday morning (June 2), during an enforcement operation by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers

Narcotic detection dog Zylo alerted officers to the presence of a suspicious odour in a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt. A search uncovered 39 packages of ecstasy hidden behind the vehicle's dash and under the back seat in custom-made compartments.

According to CBP officials, the driver claimed to be en route to Mount Vernon for business. Upon discovery of the drugs, he was arrested and turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
