Shooting uncovers marijuana grow-op |
Prince George RCMP continue to investigate a shooting Thursday night in the 2100 block of Norwood Street in the third drug-related shooting at a local residence in 24 hours.
| Police conducted a search of the residence and located a small marijuana grow operation. A dozen mature marijuana plants, several clones and several kilos of wet marijuana were seized. The three men arrested in connection with the shooting are still in custody. They were expected to appear before a justice of the peace late Friday on a variety of weapons-related charges. |  | The suspects arrested in the shooting are involved in the drug trade in Prince George, says Staff Sgt. Doug Aird. All Prince George residents, they are 27, 25 and 23 years old, Aird said. He said no evidence of gang membership had been determined.

However, the 23-year-old arrested was the same man taken to hospital with a stab wound to the abdomen Dec. 24 after a brawl at Pine Centre Mall among alleged members of rival drug gangs, including the Crew and the Independent Soldiers, and a motorcycle gang, Aird said. The man declined to co-operate with police after that incident.
A a man inside the Norwood Street home at the time of the shooting escaped being struck by gunfire, however his dog was hit, but survived.
Plainclothes and Crime Reduction Team members were in the vicinity of the shooting and responded, to find two men carrying firearms fleeing the scene. One male suspect pointed a long-barrelled weapon at one of the police officers who had identified himself. The officer fired one shot at the armed suspect, who refused to put the weapon down.
The suspect made his way to a vehicle, which was pursued by police into the downtown core, where the driver made attempts to evade arrest. The vehicle was stopped by several marked and unmarked police vehicles and two males inside were arrested. Two police service dogs were called in, and the third suspect was located hiding in an underground structure and taken into custody.
Police service dogs continued to search the Norwood scene and located a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and a semi-automatic handgun.
RCMP said this was not a random attack and is associated with the drug trade in Prince George. The house was hit by bullets and the scene was secured by officers as the investigation continued. Two drug-related residential shootings occurred minutes apart Wednesday night, one on Victoria Street and the other on Lasalle Avenue.
