$29,000 in `personal' cannabis
Convincing a judge that his 93 cannabis plants worth $29,000 were for personal use was a tall order for Hastings man Joseph Davy - and one he soon abandoned before Judge Robert Spear.
Davy appeared in Napier District Court for sentencing on a charge of cultivating cannabis.

His property had been searched on May 5 by a bailiff over unpaid fines. The bailiff was accompanied by police, who discovered the cannabis.

Davy was sentenced to two years' prison, with the requirement he undertake drug abuse treatment and counselling.
