Zambia's Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) has arrested a Malawian national and 28 Zambians for trafficking in narcotic and psychotropic substances, ZANIS reported on Sunday.
Among the Zambians arrested, two are juveniles.
Rosten Chuulu, DEC Public Relations and Press Liaison Officer, was quoted as saying that a 25-year-old Malawian national named Chifundo Koto was arrested together with four other Zambians in Eastern Province for trafficking a total of 986.6 grams of cannabis. library image
The DEC has in Central Province arrested Steria Lungu for trafficking 39.6 kg of cannabis concealed in a 90 kg bag of groundnuts.
The organ has also arrested Loyd Hamoonga, 30, of Chibolya B compound in Itezi - tezhi for trafficking 4.65 kg of cannabis, and Andrew Nsonge, 35, a peasant farmer of Serenje, for trafficking 2. 1 kg of the same substance.
Others arrested in the province include Makanda Zhinga, 29, Joseph Mbambi, 29, and a 15-year-old juvenile for trafficking 2g, 6.43g and 294 g of the same substance respectively.
As for the Copperbelt, Chulu revealed that the commission has arrested and jointly charged Peter Kachengelo, 28, and Eunice Kachengelo for trafficking 10.8 kg of cannabis.
"In Lusaka, the commission has arrested Aaron Banda of Kanyama compound for trafficking 15 sachets of heroin weighing 0.0675 g and also Kissner Chilando, 24, for trafficking in cannabis weighing 99.0176 g ," he said.
