Moroccan security arrest Spaniard with 435kg of hashish |
Rabat, Morocco - Moroccan customs officers have reported arresting a Spanish citizen in Tangiers harbour with 435kg of hashish concealed in his vehicle.
| Gonzalez D., 38, was about to board a ferry sailing for Algesiras, South of Spain. He was driving an Italian registered van, a source close to the Moroccan customs services revealed, saying the man was arrested on Tuesday. The same source said Gonzalez would soon appear in court to answer the charge of "international drug trafficking". |  |
The source added that three Portuguese citizens were also arrested by the "customs on the same day. The three had concealed 5kg of "chira" (cannabis resin) in their car's double skin tank.
Since last 5 August, a series of major seizures involving several tons of hashish destined to the European market have been made by customs officers at the Tangiers harbour.
Persons found guilty of "international drug trafficking" in Morocco risk heavy penalties, sometimes up to 10 years imprisonment with heavy fines.
