Tourist jailed for possessing drugs |
|
A QATARI tourist has been sentenced in his absence to six months in jail and fined BD500, after being caught with hashish as he entered Bahrain over the King Fahad Causeway from Saudi Arabia.
The 29-year-old defendant failed to show up to hear the verdict, at the Lower Criminal Court.
He was arrested in February last year and charged with obtaining, possessing and using the drug illegally. He was searched after a Bahraini Customs official noticed that he looked nervous. Officials found 0.8 grams of hashish in his wallet. The defendant was arrested and later released on BD500 bail.
