California to legalize Marijuana?
California finally has a bill in the works that could be passed as soon as this November that would legalize use and sales of marijuana.
Image Marijuana would still be taxed with a $5 tax to sell an eighth ounce of Marijuana and a $50 tax for the growth of one marijuana plant. If this bill passes, it has many implications, but hardly any of them I see as bad.

Many people fear an increase in the number of potheads if this bill is passed but that is not likely. In fact, the legalization of marijuana may actually decrease the number of potheads.

Back in the 1920s when prohibition was in full swing, alcohol reached the height of its popularity as everyone, including law enforcement officials rushed to get a drink. It also gave rise to Al Capone and a huge band of criminals because the smuggling of alcohol registered such huge profits. There was some thrill for everyone of doing something illegal. I figure right now, its much the same with marijuana, especially among the younger generation. Many kids just do it to look “cool” or to feel like they are older. When the ban is lifted, I bet at least some of these kids will stop.

It will also pull the plug for many drug dealers that depend on selling weed as a vital source of income. Since you can get a license to sell legal weed anywhere, I doubt many people will risk jail just to buy illegal weed. Plus, market competition will force many of these dealers out of business as no one will buy a eighth ounce for $80 when they can get it for $60. The prices will drop to a acceptable market level and the profit for dealers will dwindle into nothing. Overall, I’d say allowing the legal sale of marijuana is a good thing as its not addictive and is no worse for people than alcohol is.

i have been campaigning for the legalization for distribution and cultivation for over ten years now and never in history have we, as americans, been soo close to a drastic change such as this. if indeed this were a democracy marijuana would alreldy be legal, i have seen throughout my various journeys hundreds of thousands, (if not millions) of people who feel as strongly as we do. when this bill gets passed i can garuntee you every one will be more relaxed and at peace with their fellow americans...hell... we'll all be too s.o.s. to want to fight or go to war....i will be here once a week untill this bill gets passed thank you for reading

i noticed that you wrote that no one would buy an eighth of weed for 80 when they get it for 60. in reality the street price of an eighth is any where from 30 to 50. it would have to be even cheaper than that to drive the black market away.
