Oregon State Police seized nearly 40 pounds of marijuana after a traffic stop Monday on Interstate 5 near Aurora, officials said.
| The incident began about 8:30 p.m. when a trooper pulled over a 1992 Lexus sedan for speed and lane change violations in a construction zone, Sgt. Dale Young said.
The trooper could smell marijuana from the vehicle and the driver told the trooper that he had a medical marijuana license, Young said.

State troopers determined there were seven 18-gallon plastic tubs filled with about 40 pounds of marijuana. The driver reportedly was taking the marijuana from a registered grow site in The Dalles to his Gervais residence. His home was not a registered site.
The man was allowed to keep about 72 ounces of marijuana under his provisions in Oregon Medical Marijuana Program. The rest of the marijuana was taken as evidence and the investigation was forwarded to Marion County District Attorney's Office.
The man's name was not released pending charges.
