Teenager accused of dealing prescription drugs
A 19-year-old Fishers man faces felony drug-dealing charges following his arrest this week by the Hamilton/Boone County Drug Task Force.
The arrest Monday of Daniel V. Gigli was the culmination of a four-month probe by task force detectives.

Gigli was charged with possessing and dealing prescription drugs, including the painkiller OxyContin and the sleep aid Ambien.

OxyContin - Now more popular with kids than other, illicit drugs
"He actually presented the Ambien as OxyContin," said Task Force Maj. Lee Goodman, who described two undercover buys in April that netted about 10 pills for about $200.

As a prior offender on probation, Gigli was being held in the Hamilton County Jail without bond. A court hearing will determine if he should stay in jail for violating terms of his probation in another drug case.

His latest case is typical of a trend in drug abuse in Indiana, according to Drug-Free Indiana findings by the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute.

The mission of the Governor's Commission for a Drug-Free Indiana is to reduce substance abuse and addictions.

"The fastest-growing substance abuse trend that we are currently addressing with regard to Drug-Free Indiana is the rising use of prescription and over-the-counter drugs," said Criminal Justice Institute spokeswoman Mica Perry.

"They're becoming a little bit more prevalent with the kids," said Goodman, who also mentioned a recent spike in LSD investigations.

"Those are the two," he said. "It seems like those two are the ones that are really hitting the market right now, especially with the younger adults."
