POLICE swooped to arrest three men in a pub car park after discovering a £400,000 suspected drugs factory.
Officers made the dramatic arrests in the car park of the Haywain public house in Coychurch Road, Brackla, at 9pm on Thursday after finding the suspected Class A and B drugs factory less than half a mile away.
Police found amphetamine with a street value of between £100,000 and £400,000 and ecstasy tablets in a house at Waunscil Avenue, Brackla.
Up to 15 police officers raided the house on Thursday at 8.30pm, discovering 10kg of amphetamine and 1,000 ecstasy tablets.
Officers also seized a 4x4 car worth £50,000 and £5,000 cash.
Following the raid, the three men, aged 32, 27 and 22, were arrested and charged with being concerned in the supply of amphetamine.
All three appeared in Bridgend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, where they were remanded in custody pending further court appearances.
A fourth man, aged 22, appeared in Bridgend Magistrates’ Court yesterday (Wednesday) charged with conspiracy to supply amphetamine.
Det Insp Jason Redrup said the sting was part of an ongoing investigation and he believes drugs were destined for sale on streets across Bridgend and South Wales.
He said: “This dramatic arrest took place in the Haywain car park. This was an intentional policing method and a risk assessment had been carried out prior to these arrests.
“We believe we have severely disrupted what is suspected to be an organised group of criminals and a suspected drugs factory.
“We believe we have disturbed an outlet for the sale of controlled drugs not only for the Bridgend county but one for the whole of South Wales.”
The investigation was a joint effort between Bridgend police’s drugs team, intelligence cell and neighbourhood policing teams alongside South Wales Police’s operational support teams.
Supt Tim Jones, divisional commander for Bridgend, was delighted with the discovery.
“Once again this shows that the police in Bridgend are committed to making Bridgend and uncomfortable place for drug dealers to operate.
In a separate search on Friday, officers searched a home on Homfray Street, Caerau, where they found a significant quantity of cocaine.
A 33-year-old man was arrested and charged with possessing a Class A drug with intent to supply.
