Amphetamines drugs stash mum has jail term halved
A YOUNG mum jailed for stashing a haul of drugs in her fridge has had her sentence halved by appeal court judges.
Rebecca McLoughlin, 25, was locked up for two years at Teesside Crown Court in October after she admitted possessing more than a kilo of amphetamine with intent to supply.

McLoughlin, of Briar Road, Thornaby, challenged the sentence, maintaining her punishment was excessive.

And her jail term was cut to 12 months when her case went to London’s Appeal Court.
The court heard the mother-of-two was prosecuted after police searched her home and found 1.4 kilos of amphetamine in the fridge freezer. The drugs haul had a potential street value of over £14,000, but was heavily adulterated and of limited purity.

McLoughlin pleaded guilty on the basis that she was minding the drugs for an unnamed individual, also claiming that she was under pressure to do so.

Lord Justice Richards concluded her original sentence was “manifestly excessive” before substituting the 12-month term.
