According to the detective constable, the accused said he was transporting the drugs to Derry to pass them to other people.
He was arrested in Drumahoe on Thursday night, with 40,000 ecstasy tablets allegedly found in the boot of his car.
Refusing bail, the magistrate said he felt that "while still being involved in another case in June, the accused could be pressured into other offences".
He said he feared the accused would not turn up for his trial, and remanded him in custody until next month.
