Study shows rise in cocaine use
There has been a significant rise in the number of Irish people using cocaine, according to the National Advisory Committee on Drugs.

Its research shows the number of people who have taken cocaine in their lives has increased from 3% to 5% since 2003.

The report, which covers the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, also shows a increase in cocaine use overall.

But less people said they had used it in the past month or the past year than in the 2003 survey.

Cannabis is the most commonly used drug, the numbers who have used the drug have increased from 17% to 21%

One in four adults in Ireland has taken illegal drugs at some stage in their lives, with nearly twice as many men as women in that group. Illegal drug use is highest among young people.
