Shocker: Children as young as six use heroin
HEROIN is rapidly becoming the ‘drug of choice’ for young people and is used by children as young as six in the South Wales Valleys.

The youngest person arrested in the recent year for supplying heroin was aged 10.

Last week South Wales Police carried out Operation Eagle in Cynon Valley, targeting drugs, truancy and anti-social behaviour.

Since 2005, 453 young people under the age of 18 have been referred for treatment for heroin addiction across Wales.

Drug workers say it has now become part of youth drug culture and can be bought for as little as £5.

Jamie Harris, who works with people aged 11 to 19, said: “Young people have to use services designed for adults - and clients who take heroin are getting younger all the time,” he said.
“I think the reason for that is socially within youth culture, young people are getting ‘older’ in respect to their drug use.

“Years ago, it was a bit of a taboo - you had the label of being a junkie,” he said.

“It does not seem to be like that any more - it is now just part and parcel of drug culture that heroin is involved.

The only message being sent by cannabis reclassification, is one of abject failure in the war against class A drugs by the government, and the police, who between them, have managed to let the entire population down
