The best laid plans o mice an' men, gang aft agley..

Scottish farmer and poet Robert Burns could have lived like a king if royalties had been charged, and paid, for that single phrase which comes from the poem “To a mouse, on turning her up in her nest with the plough”, written in 1785.

Since being translated into the “De’ils Tongue” it’s become the popular quotation “The best laid plans of mice and men, often go awry”, which pretty much sums up summer 2006 from my own perspective.

Here’s the story;

 plants were ready long before I was..

The plan was, for an organic grow undertaken completely outdoors and force finished by the end of August.

Chosen strain was to be whatever indica dominant cuttings I could put my hands on quickly and the grow system was to be 3x Autopot’s, filled with an organo-coco mix from Biobizz, and inoculated with “Rootgrow”, (a variety of friendly mycorrhizal fungi – www.friendlyfungi.co.uk)

Three “Mango” cuttings soon came my way and by the beginning of June they were safely ensconced in their new Autopots, basking in the 26c heat wave my area was enjoying at the time.

Over the next week or two a program of training including bending and tying, brought the plants into some sort of shape whilst maintaining a lo-profile. The improved nutrition provided by the Biobizz medium which included worm humus, pre-mix and garden lime as well as the coco-mix, quickly brought condition back to the plants and the final stages of my plan came together only as flowering loomed large on the horizon.
