Spring..hardening off your outdoor plants

Its that time of year again!

Spring is totally springing and all around there seems to be a new vibrance.  A new hope.

Light quality is increasing with every passing day and by the middle-to-end of May I will be counting the daylight hours, waiting for them to exceed 14 hours of good useable light.  By then, the plants should be ready for the move outdoors.

Intially they will spend a few weeks "hardening off" in my back garden.  Acclimatising to the great outdoors, before setting off on a great expedition - to complete an outdoor growing season.

growing sunflowers or tomatoes offers great camouflage in the garden..

Plants as big as transit vans are possible with an absolute minimum of grower input.  Cannabis grows so fast given satisfactory conditions, thought needs applying to the location of the grow before it starts, if you dont want to find yourself in a position which see's it necessary to move them when they're huge.

That is, if its possible to move them at all.

Plant them in the ground and any thought of moving your plants somewhere a bit more discreet, is right out the window.  So I always do my homework first.

Hardening off
There are a number of recommended methods to 'harden off' plants which have been raised in a sheltered environment such as an indoor grow room or heated greenhouse.

To ensure success when growing outdoors I always take a few simple steps to make sure the plants make the transition from indoor to out happily, and more importantly, healthily.

For a broader explanation as to how hardening off properly helps, you might want to check out THIS LINK , which will take you to the website of the Royal Horticultural Society

Personally I use a cold frame which can be ventilated more & more, gradually, and over a period of around 4 weeks, by which time the plants are ready to fend for themselves in the great outdoors.

Worth the effort?
As I see it, to do things proplerly the plant is looking to be out until anytime between mid September and Mid October so giving them a helping hand at the start is the least you can do if you're hoping to count on any sort of return for your efforts.

Besides which its a lovely time of year to be out and about in the garden.

Enjoy it!
