'Plant Lover' used skill to grow cannabis
An expert horticulturist who "used real skill" to grow cannabis has avoided jail.

Life-long plant fan Christopher Millard (27) was found with 33 cannabis plants when police raided his house in Scampton, near Lincoln.

Officers also found 4g of prepared magic mushrooms, which would have had a street value of more than £2,000.

Millard, of the village's Suffolk Road, admitted production of cannabis, possession with intent to supply, possession of cannabis and possession and production of magic mushrooms, a class A drug.

Lincoln magistrates had previously heard that Millard, a computer designer, was an expert horticulturist who cultivated a large number of rare cacti and fungi along with his cannabis.
By the age of four, the bench was told, he could name all the plants in the family's garden.

As well as the cannabis, police found a wide range of rare plants from South America, South East Asia and the Middle East.

Officers described Millard as an expert who had used real skill to grow his plants.

He had explained the 33 cannabis bushes by saying he was growing them for personal use and when it became apparent that he was going to get a bumper crop he decided he would give the rest to his friends.

Millard will serve a 12-month community order, do 150 hours of unpaid work and was also ordered to pay £60 court costs. The court also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the plants.
