Committee to hear testimony on medical marijuana bill |
A Senate health committee will hear testimony today on a bill that would allow people with certain medical conditions to use marijuana.
| Under the Kansas Medical Marijuana Act, people with a debilitating disease could present a judge a "written certification" from their doctor attesting to the relief marijuana provides. Laura Green is director of Kansas Compassionate Care Coalition. She says the bill doesn't legalize marijuana, but allows someone with a serious medical condition and who gets arrested for marijuana to bring it up in court. | |
Former Attorney General Robert Stephan, a cancer survivor, will testify in favor of the bill. He supports legalizing the drug for medical use.
Among the conditions covered by the measure are cancer, glaucoma, AIDS and hepatitis C.
