Kern County extends medical marijuana shops' licenses |
BAKERSFIELD, Calif.—Kern County supervisors say local medical marijuana shops can use their current licenses for another year, as part of a strategic move to prevent any dispensaries from operating in the county.
| That's because all six of the shops whose licenses were extended closed down in July following federal raids. Medical marijuana is illegal under federal law, but allowed under California law. | |
County supervisor Michael Rubio says letting the existing licenses stay current through December 2008 will prevent new dispensaries from opening. Opponents say the move amounts to a de facto ban on medical marijuana dispensaries. | | http://www.mercurynews.com | |
