Senate rejects allowing marijuana to ease illnesses |

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) -- The Illinois Senate today rejected a proposal to allow people with serious illnesses to use marijuana to ease pain and other problems. The vote was 22 in favor and 29 against Chicago Democratic Senator John Cullerton's legislation. It would allow people sick with AIDS, cancer, multiple sclerosis and other debilitating problems, and their caretakers, to possess 12 cannabis plants and two-point-five ounces of useable marijuana.
Many such patients have reported marijuana eases pain, spasms and encourages appetite. A 1978 Illinois law allows using medical marijuana but it's never been implemented. Today's tally was the first floor vote for the issue in three decades. Cullerton says he will talk to members who weren't present to rally support. http://www.wjbc.com/
