Weight Loss Drug Alli hits UK supermarkets

http://pr.cannazine.co.uk : April 2009 will go down as the month the Glaxo SmithKline marketing department really earned their corn.

As a result of a nationwide campaign to sell GSK's new weight-loss drug Alli, (AKA Orlistat, AKA Xenical), it quickly became the fastest selling over-the-counter weight-loss medication..ever. And as if its success wasn't already assured, you can now find it in the pharmacy at your favourite branch of Tesco, Asda, Morrisons or Sainsbury's.

Ideal if you want to pick some whilst shopping for burgers, buns and beer.

The Bad News
The secret of its success isn't hard to work out, as the globe generally, and the UK specifically, tries to come to terms with the effects of eating more and more processed foods which are not only high in salt, but also fat.

For a generation that lives its lives in the fast lane, people find they simply don't have the time to make sure their diet provides a balanced and varied selection of the essential vitamins, minerals, carbs and proteins, and in just the right ratios to lead a happy, healthy life and for most of us, 5-a-day relates only to the amount of cigarettes we smoke, (or should that be the amounts of cigarettes we tell our doctors we smoke).

The Good News
So when Glaxo announced their new wonder drug 'Alli', will reduce our fat intake by up to a third, it was music to a generation's ears, but not neccessarily for all the right reasons.

Whilst a fair percentage of those wishing to use Alli, do have the recommended body mass indicator (BMI) over 30, for the majority of users their motivation for wanting to use the super-pill they can get without speaking to their doctor is quite different, and all of a sudden pharmacists, who are not renowned as being the party animals of the world by any stretch of the imagination, found themselves to be popular. With lots of new 'friends of friends'.

The fact is, for anyone wanting to shed some pounds prior to their annual two week drunken binge in Benidorm, or just before a late spring wedding, Alli is the answer to our prayers. The second coming.

It means we can do what we enjoy over the Christmas period. That is, binge eat and drink until we're sick, without worrying what our social calendar has in store for us through the first half of the coming year.

Simply add a course of Alli to your new year resolutions list, (this is a no-brainer even the worst resolution-o-phobe should be able to keep going, at least for a couple of months) and by the time May is finished and your two months spent crunching Alli-caps after every meal is over, you should be as trim as a trim thing.

But after a British newspaper (The Telegraph) 'outed' a UK pharmacy for selling Alli to a reporter who as well as being only a size '8' dress size, clearly weighed about as much as a small paper bag full of hummingbirds, Glaxo were forced to stamp down on its retail outlets, demanding their product only be sold to those that need it.

But in the same vein as the tobacco industry warn us of the perils of using their respective products, and nobody listens, the same can be said of Alli.

GSK said it must only be used by those that need it.

Well I've got news for you fella's. We all need it. We all want it. And we shall all get it...eventually.

But what happens if, like the reporter mentioned above, you weight 8 stone soaking wet, but you know you have a tendency to pile the pounds on periodically and you would like to be able to decide when they come off again. You also don't happen to know a friendly (blind) pharmacist and you have a stag or hen trip to Ibiza planned?

Fear you not, as its now possible to buy the "full strength" version of Alli, over the internet.

Orlistat
For those that don't know these things, Alli, is a marketing name invented by Glaxo SmithKline. Its pronounced "Ally", which just goes to show how much those marketing people truly are worth. Yes indeed.

But the actualy 'drug' inside the little blue capsules is called 'Orlistat'.

Orlistat is actually a prescription only controlled medication. What that means is, if you want to use Orlistat, which is prescribed under the name 'Xenical', you must speak with your doctor first, and convince him or her that you actually need it.

So GSK decided to market a version which comes in below the controlled drugs limit, meaning it was possible for it to be sold as an OTC (over the counter) drug, much like 500mg Paracetamol, which is also a controlled drug which the pharmacist or store-keeper must first 'OK' you to buy. Which is why they're behind the counter.

So GSK got to generate phenomenal sales during a period of mass global economic downturn, selling only a watered down variant of a 'new' drug which has been around for eons. And that my friends is the power of marketing.

Online Shopping
If you want to use this product without your doctors say-so, there are plenty of pharmacies online which will sell it to you. But be aware you probably won't find any in the United Kingdom.

Why? Because its illegal for a UK pharmacy to sell Orlistat (Xenical). If a British firm does advertise the fact they sell Xenical, they might just as well advertise cocaine, heroin and cannabis alongside it.

So you are going to need to find a pharmacy outside the United Kingdom.

"But what about fakes and frauds" I hear you scream.

Ah yes, that'll be those marketing people at it again.

The fact is you need to do some home-work when it comes to handing out your credit card details, and make sure you're using a reliable company.

But don't let the scare mongers put you off experiencing two or three months of oily-stools and brown spots in your pants, (commonly called the "alli-oops").

The end results makes the increased laundry bill well worthwhile and if you're planning an end-of-season bargain holiday in 2009, you've still got time to shed some pounds. Result!

Please note Pharmacy-i is a British pharmaceutical's broker who works with pharmacies based in the US, Canada and The Seychelles, all of which offer an online doctors consultation during the buying process, meaning you can now legally buy the full-strength product.

What does that mean exactly?

It means, if you buy generic Xenical through Pharmacy-i.Com , your product will arrive safe & sound at your door, and wherever in the world your front door may be, within 14 - 28 days...guaranteed, with free delivery!

So stock up on baby-wipes my friend, and let the weight-loss begin. And please, don't forget to tell your friends.
