After over 70 years of outright cannabis prohibition by way of an unfair tax-levy, and under the weight of daily mounting evidence to the benefits of marijuana to certain sections of the community, isn't it time for change? It wasn't all that long ago that any news coverage regarding cannabis - the evil weed which seduces our children and causes men to "kill their brothers" and "rape their mothers" after a single toke on a marijuana joint, would only be negative!
Never positive, in any way, shape or form. Harry J Anslinger put paid to that!
In the same vein as TV/movie script-writers have a set of guide-lines to follow which includes never letting the bad guy gain from his illegal activities even if he is the hero of the plot, the press were soon programmed to report stories with a cannabis angle, "in a certain light"!

Terminology used also plays a part!
Today, every well tended, cared for cannabis garden is a "cannabis factory" in the eyes of the press. The Police see no difference in a house which contains a by-passed electricity metre, oriental foods, asian DVD's and only one room set up for actually "living in", and a house belonging to an indiginous member of the local community. Who has maybe a small cupboard converted to grow two or three plants and who grows for their own reasons, be they recreational or medicinal as opposed to a complete house turned over to cannabis horticulture.
They also fail to distinguish between the truck loads of illegal immigrants who are, as we speak, meandering through the channel tunnel to a new life in Gordons green and pleasant land, and the indiginous population of cannabis growing voters who choose to consume cannabis intead of alcohol or tobacco.

Apparently some enterprising soul has set up a kiosk half-way through the tunnel so arriving immigrants can pick up all the things necessary for a prosperous stay in our country including wire strippers, copies of "by-passing UK electricity metres for DUMMIES", and lengths of fuse-wire pre-cut, depending on which "socio-economical" area you are headed for - pointless turning up at a mansion in Surrey, equipped to rewire a two-up, two-down in a small coal-mining village in Wales!

Lets face it - tobacco and alcohol, DIRECTLY kill voters every day. No spin. No hype!
For as long as the government chooses to allow tobacco and yet refuses to allow cannabis they continue to condone this in the name of tax collection.
But what about those who consume to relieve pain and suffering?

THEIR pain and suffering, not anyone elses so what gives anyone else the right to decide what constitutes a beneficial remedy over an illegal drug? Especially as doctors AGREE cannabis has beneficial properties!

What makes it especially guiling is the fact these rules originate from someone who spends their time assuring voters they have, indeed, never tried cannabis and have no concept of its effects, over what they've read from government funded white papers? Apart from (of course), dear Boris Johnson who doesn't care who knows what!

The fact is cannabis has many pain relieving qualities and this is confirmed daily as news reports and white papers continue to eminate from educational facilities in the United States as well a little closer to home.

Where even though they have some fearsome anti-cannabis punishments (the US), 25% of the States already legislate for marijuana use as a medical treatment, with a lot more sitting as interested spectators to see how this legislation fares and NEW YORK state just yesterday (15th June 07), passed the act on to the US Senate for rubber-stamping into state law!
Doctors (surely the people who know best) issue prescriptions and this certificate of entitlement gives the owner the right to grow and consume cannabis!
Yet in the UK, there is no room for manoevre.
Its black & white and on the strength of what?
A campaign of lies, conjecture, circumstancial evidence and manipulated press propoganda which at the time was classed as "the word", and all from a few once-powerful men who had their own agenda firmly in mind, and never mine or yours! Cannabis is now in the hands of the pharmaceutical giants, who will (as they've proven at every turn in history), use it and abuse it to their own ends whilst making sure its kept well out of reach to the general public at large! Today, in 2007, and with the independent medical evidence and respected opinions mounting daily, its time for change!

Isn't it time someone took control of the DEA (as well as cannabis/marijuana legislation in general), away from him once and for all?
