When Patrick Swayze filmed the surf action movie "Break Point" it was 1990 and cgi animation was still in its infancy.
As King Canute found out way back when, time and tide stands still for no man and grabbing the right scenes was entirely in the laps of the gods as the cast and crew waited every day to see what the weather would bring.
Only then could the production crew decide some sort of order for the days shooting as the lions share of the waves had to be ridden, by someone, so the film crew had something to capture.
Then it was a case of mobilizing a fleet of helicoptors and jet-skis necessary to catch the footage - a mammoth logistical task.
Out in the real world surfers travel to the four corners of the globe in search of the perfect wave.
And when they find it, the results can be quite spectacular..
By the time this ride ends the surfer has travelled over a quarter of a mile!!
