Cannabidiol and Cardiovascular Health

People who have a history of hypertension may benefit from the use of Cannabidiol, also known as CBD. The ingredient of interest is Cannabidiol or CBD. It is believed that cannabidiol reduces blood pressure and improves heart rhythm. It also improves blood flow to the brain, possibly due to the fact that it contains a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). This component of CBD has been shown to have a beneficial effect on people with hypertension and atherosclerosis.

The National Institute of Health (NIH) has reported that cannabidiol (CBD) may lower high blood pressure in human beings. Preliminary data have indicated that cannabidiol may be useful for treating a variety of cardiovascular diseases. A clinical trial involving stroke rehabilitation showed a reduction in blood pressure after patients were given CBD during treatment. This preliminary evidence supports the theory that cannabidiol reduces blood pressure. Other disorders are under investigation, including sleep apnea, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and epilepsy. If true, CBD may hold the key to managing hypertension and heart problems, as well as preventing future hypertension and heart attacks. Not only could CBD lower blood pressure without negatively impacting heart rate or heart rhythm, it may also reverse the negative effects of stress and anxiety on blood pressure. As exciting as this sounds, further studies are urgently needed to determine if CBD is truly the answer to reducing hypertension and other cardiovascular problems.
